New urban Decay Hi-Fi shine Ultra cushion Lip Gloss

urban Decay Hi-Fi shine Lip Glosses ($20 each)
Where are all the naked dudes?!

It’s a completely legit question to ask when you’re talking about new urban Decay Hi-Fi shine Ultra cushion Lip Gloss, because, as you might remember…

Of course you remember, and don’t play like you don’t!

UD did that line of lipglosses back in the day with holographic pictures of half-naked dudes on the caps (THEY WERE CALLED POCKET ROCKET. There. *snaps* Sorry, took me a moment to remember.), and when you turned the caps, they’d go from smiling and posing like catalog models, to looking over their carry in tight purple boxer briefs.

It was so cheeky, crazy and fun, and quite a different style for UD at the time — not their normal tattoos and piercings amazing girl vibe. It’s hard to think of they did something like that, but I guess if people can change and evolve, so can makeup brands.

Urban Decay glosses through the years…

I used to really ? Honey-Infused Lip love Therapy.

Remember the mega MINTY urban Decay Lip Junkie Lip Glosses?

Of course, we can’t forget these dudes!

The revolution glosses had the coolest packaging.

An amalgam of two classic lipgloss lines

These new $20 plumping lipglosses do NOT have any Magic Mike action happening on their caps (sorry to disappoint you, ya pervert), but they still got it goin’ on.

Until recently, UD had two separate gloss lines — revolution and naked — but they phased them out and replaced them with this line, Hi-Fi Shine.

These are generally the old naked gloss formula with an additional plumping element, new packaging and new colors. UD carried over some of the revolution shades (Revolution was their brighter line) and naked shades (Naked was their nudes line), and added some others. then they divided them all among four finishes — Cream, sheer Cream, Holographic and Metallic.

Old flames and new loves

I’m thankful they kept the colors I wear all the time, like Beso (a creamy, deep pinkish mauve), Fireball, naked and Snitch (OMG, this coral!), they also added some new potential stars, like bright purple Jawbreaker and creamy mauve pinkish nude Backtalk.

Beso, a deep pink-mauve cream (Cream)
Fireball, a holographic peach with pink sparkle (Holographic)

Naked, a nude-pink cream with pearly pink shift (Sheer Cream)
Snitch, a bright coral cream (Cream)
Jawbreaker, a classic purple cream (Cream)
Balktalk, a mauve-nude pink cream (Cream)
More mint

OK, now, the naked glosses were incredibly minty… That was the big thing about them, but have a seat, and slow your roll. These are NOT toothpaste glosses, thank goodness; otherwise, I wouldn’t have touched ’em with a 10-foot pole.

Granted, the minty flavor and scent are strong, but it’s a lot more like a tasty after-dinner peppermint than Colgate… There’s also meant to be a vanilla note up in there, but it gets overshadowed by the mint. Either way, whether the mint fades, or whether I just get used to it, I don’t notice it after five minutes or so.

These glosses feel exactly like the naked glosses to me. Actually, the medium-weight, moderately moisturizing non-sticky formula also feels exactly like the NARS glosses. You can absolutely feel them sitting on your lips and slipping and gliding between them. It’s a “present” type of feeling, but it isn’t heavy like the old-school MAC Lipglasses.

As for wear time, I get two or three hours tops. I like to stick one of the neutral ones in my purse or my pocket, and I don’t mind touching up throughout the day because I use the side of the gloss packaging, which is very reflective, as a mirror.

Let me do that ideal now… I have Midnight Cowboy on my desk, so let’s touch up. Ooh, so sheer! So golden pink. absolutely a Karen color.

Midnight Cowgirl, a nude cream with golden shimmer (Sheer cream finish, an Ulta exclusive)
Gentle plumping

Oh, and they’re tingly! — but just a little. It’s maybe just shy of a pin prick, and it’s due to the plumping element, which is barely but obvious (so don’t expect Kylie Jenner lips, dude).

1993, a medium brown cream (Cream)
Savage, an electric pink cream (Cream)
Bang, a bright orange-red cream (Cream)
Big Bang, a metallic hot pink (Metallic)
Snapped, a holographic deep plum with blue shimmer (Holographic)
Dirty Talk, a metallic burgundy with pink shimmer (Metallic)
Goldmine, a metallic bright gold (Metallic)
Shadowheart, a chocolate brown with golden sparkle (Metallic)
Rapture, a rose-mauve cream (Cream)
Fuel, a light neutral nude cream (Cream)
Obsessed, a baby pink cream (Sheer Cream)
Candy Flip, a holographic lavender with blue-pink sparkle (Holographic)
SPL, a holographic candy pink with iridescent sparkle (Holographic)
Check out

Definitely check out Beso, Naked, Midnight Cowgirl, Fireball and Obsessed, if you’re a nude lips girl, and if your going through a brights phase, look for Jawbreaker, big Bang, Bang and Savage. I think you’ll dig those.

You can find them now at the normal haunts — Sephora, Ulta and the UD website. select Macy’s too!

I like these… I was a little sad to see the naked glosses go bye-bye, but UD kept the spirit of them with these.
